It has been heavily emphasized to me that preventative skin care is of the utmost importance. If you only start once you begin to see features you don’t like (wrinkles, dark spots) that’s an uphill battle. So particularly once I was 21 (and found my first grey hair) I started taking skin care very seriously.
At 22 I moved from Washington (state) to North Carolina and the environmental differences wreaked havoc on my skin. I was fortunate to not really ever have bad acne; sure I get a few pimples here and there but nothing major. But after being in NC for a couple of months my skin had dry patches and a lot of blemishes on my cheeks and in my T-zone — something I hadn’t really dealt with before. My skin had always been described as “normal” and “bouncy” to me previously by aestheticians and cosmetologists, so this was new and not fun territory.
I tried so many blemish spot treatments, but I found the only thing that really worked for me was the Clarins Lotus Face Treatment oil. 2-3 drops in the morning and at night and within 2 weeks my skin was back to what I had always considered normal. It’s been 4 years and I continue to use this regularly in the morning (I have since switched to night time specific face oils for the evening). It’s a little more viscous than you might expect, for example it really doesnt fall out of the eye dropped unless you are squeezing the dropper, but it does fully absorb into my skin in about 1.5-2 minutes. So I usually put it on then brush my teeth, and by then I am good to go about the rest of my routine.
It helped with redness, dryness, and blemishes. It’s a bit on the costly side but to wake up and regularly have nice skin I think it’s completely worth it. When I was using it 2x a day I went through 3 to 4 bottles a year — a little goes a long way. I would often wait until Nordstrom had a beauty sale on this (or a Clarins gift with purchase promotion) or until Sephora had its VIB sale and stock up. I use about 2 bottles now that I am down to just once daily, and this is an item I ALWAYS take with my while traveling. This is an essential part of my skincare routine, and if you can afford it I highly recommend it.
- Buy it at Sephora for $58 and free shipping
- Buy it at Nordstrom for $58 and free shipping
- Buy it at Ulta for $58 and free shipping (excluded from coupons)
- Buy it from Clarins for $58 and $5 shipping, but they often have good promotions and if you sign up for their email listserv you get 10% off your first purchase
- You can also search for it on amazon, but buyer beware.
I suggest sticking with whatever retailer you spend the most as to make the most of their rewards program, with the exception of buying directly from Clarins when they’re running a great special.
